I personally know many of them, most of them were senior level(almost retirement age) expats. Indeed, it was like a forced retirement.They were given a 3 month grace period to leave the country, and on request, it was extended to 1 year because of their kids' schooling issues(most of them are in their final years). But let me tell you, everyone were given all the deserved bonus allowances and other monetary benefits as almost all of them had 10+ years experience here.
3 months was the time given to exit the country. Many found this sudden layoff a shock move, some couldn't handle the stress and ended up in suicidal thoughts. And also some thought they'd leave the country and return back after a year, which the govt did not allow.
