What is the typical salary of a recruitment consultant in London?

Recruitment isn't a HR job - it's a sales job. If you want to get into a HR services position, recruitment might not be Click Here right for you. That's why those OTE salaries are so high - you'll have revenue targets to meet, and if you meet (or exceed) them, you'll earn commission based on the revenue you've generated. You generate revenue by pitching your services as a recruiter to employers, with the aim of them agreeing to let you help them find candidates for their vacancies. So while there is some common ground between HR and recruitment, in that both jobs involve assessing candidates' applications for the vacancies you're handling, the emphasis when you work as a recruiter is very much at the sales end of the spectrum. You won't have any vacancies to assess candidates for unless you've done the sales and business development work first. The employers will only pay you when you successfully find them candidates for their vacancies (ie. employer offers candidate a job, candidate accepts and starts and doesn't leave within the first three months or so) so if you don't get all of that right after you do the business development work to find the vacancies in the first place, you won't be generating any revenue, so you won't meet those OTE targets. And frankly, as with any sales job, if you don't meet your revenue targets, sooner or later you'll get fired. It's a difficult job to do well. A lot of people can't (or don't want to) handle the sales aspect of the job, but if you don't do that, you won't be successful in the rest of it. Having said that, you do find a lot of recruiters moving into corporate HR positions after a few years in recruitment - some of the skills you build up being a recruiter are useful in corporate HR environments, not least the target-oriented focus of the job. So by all means give it a go, but bear in mind you won't be meeting those OTE targets by doing HR work - to meet them you'll need to do sales and business development work. But here's something else to bear in mind - when I was a manager of recruiters, I would very rarely hire someone who told me they wanted to be a recruiter because of an interest in a HR career path. In that case, it usually becomes apparent that recruitment's not the right job for them.
